Background

Shin & Kim LLC, one of South Korea’s leading law firms, has launched an AI & Digital Competition Team to help companies manage rising competition law risks linked to artificial intelligence and fast-growing digital markets.

The firm said the new team will provide detailed legal assessment and strategic guidance for businesses dealing with regulatory challenges in sectors such as AI, semiconductors, cloud services, and major digital platforms. Shin & Kim said that global tech companies, Korean conglomerates, startups, and small firms are quickly growing their AI and digital work. Because of this, following competition laws has become more important than ever.

The new team will focus on complex antitrust issues, including market concentration in AI training data and computing resources, platform integration of AI services and concerns related to the distribution of AI models. It will also advise on risks linked to strategic investments, partnerships, and ecosystem expansion, as well as issues like access to key infrastructure, interoperability, vertical integration, and algorithm-driven anti-competitive practices.

Partner Changhun Lee will lead the AI & Digital Competition Team. Shin & Kim said Lee brings strong experience in handling digital sector cases involving mobile services, semiconductors, and AI. Over the past 20 years, he has represented clients in major domestic and cross-border antitrust matters and is known for his deep understanding of competition law.

Senior Foreign Attorney John H. Choi, who chairs global cases and investigations at the firm, will also play a key role. Choi has nearly 30 years of antitrust experience and has worked on major global competition cases.

Other members include Senior Foreign Attorney Hyunah Kim and several partners with expertise in competition law. The team will also receive support from senior advisors, including former Korea Fair Trade Commission Vice Chairman Chul-Ho Ji and economic analysis expert In Ho Lee.

Lee said companies must identify competition risks early, as regulators are applying new standards to AI and digital markets.
